BEST MADE-TO-MEASURE SUITS
GQ REVIEWS.... Made to Measure

Clements & Church provides an almost magical service. At a time of your choosing, a tailor turns up at your work, home or wherever you like with a little space to make you a suit that fits your body and your personality, perfectly. Based in Solihull, their “travelling tailor” met me in the GQ fashion office as one of his several London appointments that day. He brought everything he needed to get a sense of my proportions, and a complete selection of fabrics and a few samples so I could get an idea for the kind of options I wanted.
Going in I had a very particular idea about what suit I wanted. I already own a dark blue Paul Smith suit for non-specific smart occasions, and Hugo Boss gratefully provided me with a black tie outfit for Men of the Year Awards: what I didn’t have is anything suitable for a summer wedding. Marco, with the help of my girlfriend via Whatsapp, helped me select a lighter shade of blue which worked with my lighter complexion and red hair, a cornflower blue wool silk linen Ariston fabric, from Naples.
The details complimented the light blue, with mother of pearl buttons, a dark blue contrast button hole and a timeless notch lapel and two buttons. Inside, I chose a playful silk lining, and we left the lining off the back of the suit to keep me extra cool in Croatia, Greece and Lisbon, the rather hot locations of the next few weddings I’m attending. To top it off, Marco suggested a monogram of my initials. On the first fitting Marco managed to get my measurements exactly right so that on the second appointment it was ready to wear immediately. Of all the things I had to arrange to make it to my friends’ weddings, getting the perfect suit was the easy bit.
