MY STYLE: ALISTAIR GUY

THE FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER TALKS TO HEAD TAILOR IAN ROPER

Home is...
North West London.

Building you’d like to buy...
A holiday home in Tuscany.

Favourite place to stay....
Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair, London.

Last book you read...
The Way We Wore: A Life In Clothes by my friend Daphne Selfe.

Shops you love...
Fortnum & Mason, Corso Como [art gallery in Milan], Bicester Village in Oxfordshire [home of numerous designer outlets] and the newer Dover Street Market in London.

Best meal...
HIX Mayfair

Best place for a date...
Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds.
Hero...
My father Major RW Guy and the actor Edward Fox.

Last downloaded music...
A Moon Shaped Pool by Radiohead.

Favourite brands.....
Citizens of Humanity, Oliver Peoples, TOMS, Calvin Klein, Smythson, Belstaff, Thomas Pink, CHUCS and Mr.Start.

Who do you call for a big night out...
My girlfriend Barbora [Bediova, who works for Calvin Klein], and my friends Philip Start [founder of menswear brand Mr.Start] and Fabrice Limon [founder of Scotch+Limon]

Most romantic gesture...
Waiting with an umbrella.

The number of suits in your wardrobe…
Five, but I only really wear two - one for serious, one for casual.

What’s your favourite suit and why?
My favourite is a Solaro – it’s light brown with woven reflective red threads cut from Smith & Co [Smith Woollens] fabric. Not too tight, not too baggy.

The best-suited man of all time is…
A chap in Florence who owns a tiny menswear store called Simone Righi. No one in the world wears a suit better than him. Seriously.

Your key piece of style advice for a man about to buy a suit...
Invest in decent shoes. A good suit is wasted with terrible shoes.

Your best advice...
Always treat people like you’d want to be treated yourself.

Describe your three favourite looks...
Formal:
Clements and Church bespoke suit and tie, Thomas pink shirt with either Church’s or Gucci loafers.

Casual: Mr Start jacket, CHUCS T-shirt with Citizens of Humanity jeans and TOMS trainers.

Big night out:
Usually a combination of the two as I adjust my outfits for the occasion.
