SIX SOLUTIONS TO SUMMER’S SMART CASUAL
STAYING SMART IN SUMMER IS A HARD TASK.
1 Dress down Tailoring
A White T shirt will take your suit from Smart to Casual. The T shirt should be fitted and pressed, as if it were a shirt. Alternatively, if you need a collar, Jersey popovers or polo shirts as an alternative to a shirt will give a more dressed down feel to tailoring.
2 Dress up Chinos
Unstructured Jackets are big news this season, choose one in a summer weight wool and the lack of lining will insure will keep you cool. This can smarten up cotton chino’s without the formality of a suit. Use accessories to keep the look dapper, a tie and pocket square will take the look up a notch.
3 Short Shorts
Tailored short suits in Seersucker have made their way into the mainstream. Keep the look conservative by styling with a button-down shirt and leather loafers or add a tie and pocket square as if in conventional tailoring.
4 Add Box Fresh Sneakers
The Sneaker is a key item in the male wardrobe this season. Not a gym shoe, instead a smart plain leather lace up; preferably white, pale grey or navy - will freshen Summer suits and take your look from formal to street smart.
5 Colour Pops
Adding a strategically placed pop of colour to your look with an accessory such as a pocket square, sock or rucksack will bring a summery vibe. Pick out a tone from your suit fabric or contrast with a bold blue, orange or yellow.
6 Cool Your Heels
Going without Socks is something Italian males swear by. This looks best with less formal tailoring and suede or leather loafers. Invest in invisible sock linings to avoid hot feet and blisters.
